A calm, steady space for those who feel deeply and carry it quietly

Person-Centred Counselling in Kirby Cross, Frinton-on-Sea & Online

Gentle support through life's challenges

Welcome, and thank you for visiting Geri Shafto Therapy.

Hi, I'm Geri. I'm a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and Therapist based on the Essex and Suffolk border, and I'm here for anyone who's been quietly carrying more than they should have to.

My journey into counselling wasn't accidental. It grew from a genuine belief that every person deserves to be truly heard, without judgement and without being told who they should be or how they should feel.

I completed my degree in Person-Centred Counselling at Colchester University, a training that deepened not just my skills but my understanding of what it really means to sit with someone in their pain and trust in their ability to find their own way through.

I am a member of the BACP, which means I work within a clear ethical framework and am committed to ongoing professional development.

Whether you're struggling with anxiety, low mood, or simply feeling like life has become a little too heavy to carry alone, I'd love to offer you a calm, steady space to breathe, be heard, and begin to find your way back to yourself.

How I work

A person-centred approach

At the heart of everything I do is a simple but profound belief, that you are the expert on your own life.

Person-Centred Counselling isn't about advice, diagnosis, or being guided toward someone else's idea of who you should be. It's about creating a genuinely safe, non-judgmental space where you can slow down, speak freely, and begin to understand yourself more deeply.

Working together

As your therapist, I won't direct you or tell you what to do. Instead, I'll walk alongside you, curious, present, and fully committed to understanding your experience from the inside out.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, low mood, grief, relationship difficulties, or simply a persistent feeling that something isn't quite right, counselling can help you untangle your thoughts, reconnect with your own sense of worth, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Finding your way forward

Many clients find that just being truly heard, without interruption, without judgement, and without an agenda, is itself transformative.

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Sometimes it's simply about having a dedicated space that is entirely yours, where you can finally exhale and begin to make sense of it all.

What issues can counselling help with?

People come to me for help with a wide range of issues. Here are just a few of the difficulties that can be supported through counselling:

Feelings of stress or anxiety

Panic attacks

Relationship problems

Grief, loss or bereavement

Problems with addiction

Trauma and post-traumatic stress

Abuse - Domestic/Coercive/Sexual

Depression

Problems with confidence or self-esteem

Anger management

Issues relating to sexuality

Difficulties at work or in retirement

Counselling in Kirby Cross, Frinton-on-Sea and online

I offer weekly one-to-one counselling sessions, each lasting 50 minutes, providing a consistent and reliable space that is entirely yours. Meeting weekly allows us to build a gentle rhythm and a genuine therapeutic relationship, something that is central to the Person-Centred approach. There is no fixed number of sessions (however, I recommend a minimum of 7 sessions to make progress); we work at your pace, for as long as feels right for you. Some clients find clarity in just a few sessions, while others choose to continue for longer, that is always your decision to make.

My fee is £55 per session, payable prior to or on the day of each appointment.

I also offer a free 20 minute introductory telephone call for anyone considering counselling for the first time, or who simply wants to get a feel for whether we might be the right fit for each other. There is no obligation and no pressure, just an honest, relaxed conversation to help you decide if you'd like to take the next step.

Taking that first step can feel daunting, but you don't have to figure out whether counselling is right for you alone. I'm here to help you work that out, together.

Get in touch
